ABOUT ME

I was born in Lucca, a small town in Tuscany (Italy) close to the most famous Pisa.

At the University of Pisa (UoP), I took a Bs degree in Computer Science Engineering in 2012 and a Ms degree in Robotics and Automation Engineering in 2015.
After my Ms graduation at the UoP with a major in robotics and automation, I worked in a spin-off  of the UoP for few months where I worked on Variable Stiffness Actuators (VSA) and anthropomorphic Soft Hands. Then, I moved to the School of Advance Studies Sant'Anna where I served as Research Fellow for 1 year and half.

In January 2018, I started my PhD in the Extreme Robotics Laboratory, based in the School of Metallurgy and Materials (College of Engineering and Physical Sciences) at University of Birmingham.

Thanks to my experience in some international challenges, I have explored many different domains in robotics and I have discovered several research interests among them, like manipulation, grasping, planning, vision and UAV control.

I am also interested in Deep Learning and Reinforcement Learning that represent novel approaches for existing and new problems.

EDUCATION

RESEARCH INTERESTS

Grasping and Manipulation

Grasping and manipulation objects is a task with a strong impact on how society feels robots.

2012

University of Pisa

Bs Degree in Computer Science Engineering

Planning

Generate a path or a trajectory able to accomplish a defined task is a very challenging operation. I am interested in task-oriented planning and exploiting the object's affordance.

Robotic Cutting

In many industrial decommissioning operations, a common task is to cut and manipulate wastes assuring of preventing human being to be harmed.  This problem is still challenging and deserves to be research into.

Deep Learning and Reinforcement Learning

Deep Learning and Reinforcement Learning are two emerging techniques with high good potential, and thanks to them some interesting results have already been achieved.

Amazon Picking Challenge

Seattle (WA) 2015

We built a complete autonomous pick 'n place robot composed by VSAs and an anthropomorphic hand gripper (Soft Hand) able to collect a random list of object by a standard Amazon bin.

BioRobotics Team at MBZIRC 2017, Abu Dhabi

Mohamed Bin Zayed Robotic Challenge

Abu Dhabi (EAU) 2017

In the first challenge, we made a controller Bio-Inspired for landing on a marked mobile vehicle.
In the second challenge, we designed a robot to reach and operate a valve posed on a panel using the right wrench selected by a given set in the scene.
In the third challenge, we exploited the same method of challenge one, to control a swarm of robots for collecting objects from arena to a fixed point.

The photo has taken just before we made the first rehearsal into the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi, where the finalist teams have competed.
